The Nokia Lumia 1020 has taken up its rightful position as the flagship Windows Phone 8 device. Announced two months back, the handset sporting a mighty 41 megapixel camera at the back and is quickly becoming a fan favorite.

According to the latest reports, the device is the third most popular smartphone over at AT&T.

And now the Nokia Lumia 1020 has just been confirmed for arrival in the United Kingdom. The device will become available for purchase in the UK starting this Thursday.

The handset launched in July, and back then it was reported that it would launch in the United Kingdom in the coming months. The device is currently available for users in the United States and in a few other markets around the globe.

In news that would please the UK users, Nokia has just confirmed the news in a short tweet that the smartphone will be released on September 12.

As mentioned above the Lumia 1020 hits the store shelves with a 41 megapixel camera — becoming the first Windows Phone 8 device to come with such majestic imaging capabilities.

Nokia also built Optical Image Stabilization into the smartphone, and bundled the Nokia Pro Camera app to offer a great imaging experience to users. The handset comes with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, paired with 2GB of RAM and a 4.5-inch screen. It also packs 32GB of internal memory.

The smartphone will be available at Three and O2 in the United Kingdom, along with retailers like Phones 4U and Carphone Warehouse. Virgin Media has confirmed that it will not be offering the 1020, while Vodafone and EE have so far remained quiet on the matter.

Pricing details are yet to surface, though O2 will be offering an exclusive 64GB version of the device. Others will go in with the default 32GB model.
