The floodgates seem to be opening. BUILD 2013 has seen announcements of several new features coming to Windows 8.1, but it appears that high-profile apps are finally following suit.

Microsoft announced that several popular apps are coming to Windows 8 in the near future, with Metro versions of Facebook and Flipboard being two of the most anticipated ones.

Now add another F to the list — Foursquare is now building its very own Windows 8 app.

Even though no specifics have been provided as of right now when it comes to the release date, the app is set to arrive on the Windows Store in the next few months. Dennis Crowley, co-founder and CEO of Foursquare said in a statement:

“People want to experience and explore the world around them, and the Foursquare for Windows 8 app helps them do that. It makes it fun to search for a place for dinner or to go out, and helps people discover new experiences. We’ve worked with Microsoft on a bunch of initiatives over the years, and this product is another example of the great things we can do together.”

Microsoft claims that the app will go beyond check-ins to use location data in a beautiful way, and thereby help users of its newest platform find places and things to do in a specific location. The app is expected to be compatible with both Windows 8 and Windows RT.
