When it comes to the Surface tablets, the job is half done for Microsoft. The company announced two enhanced models yesterday, to go with a bunch of official new accessories for the devices.

Now, however, the company will be looking into all it can do to boost sales.

The first generation Surface tablets (at least the Surface Pro), along with Windows Phone handsets, have so far had a decent enough run. But they are not tearing up the sales charts as much as Redmond would have hoped for.

And in order to increase the traction of both these devices, Microsoft may just have the perfect plan.

Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet is writing that the technology titan could soon launch a new bundle, a Surface and Windows Phone bundle. This will not only provide a boost to sales, but also tackle the lack of 3G connectivity in the Surface slates.

The company’s tablets are lacking such a feature for the time being.

While Panos Panay, the head of the Surface unit at Microsoft has confirmed that an LTE Surface slate is projected to be unveiled next year, though the man stopped shy of providing any further details.

But through it all, the company is betting big on the productivity side of its tablets, and with cellular capabilities missing from the second generation Surface slates, an enticing new bundle could be the perfect incentive for people to make the jump to the Windows ecosystem.

Expect more on this in the coming weeks.

    • Hear hear! 🙂 I believe Microsoft should look into signing up some official retailers in markets and countries where it has not yet released its tablet. Large ones are fine, but a few smaller ones are a must to keep prices in check where the Surface is not yet available.

I’ve seen Surface slates being priced at almost double in countries where they are not officially released. And that’s a pretty neat way to keep sales down. Not many would pay $800 for a $500 device.

  • Ok, where are the bundles including an X-box One or 360. They need to be doing every bundle they can think of to make people think they’re getting a good deal.
