AdDuplex reports today on Windows 8 RT and Windows 8 market shares worldwide. Their analysis shows that among Windows RT devices worldwide, Microsoft Surface dominates with 82% of the market.
In second place is the ASUS Vivo Tab with 12%, followed by the Dell XPS 10 with 5% and then Samsung Ativ Tab with 1%.
The next analysis comparing Windows 8 and Windows 8 RT market shares tells an even more compelling story. Windows 8 dominates the Windows market – according to their analysis – by a factor of over 9 to 1.
AdDuplex also suggests these numbers are likely skewed in favor of Windows 8 RT, so this tells us that the market may have bypassed Windows 8 RT in favor of the ‘full’ Windows version.
The next graphic shows the breakdown of PCs and notebooks running both OSs. Studying these numbers, We see that Surface leads, while HP dominates with multiple devices.
AdDuplex also notes that the top 10 Windows 8 and Windows 8 RT devices are dominated by cheap laptop models, with a notable exception being the ASUS Vivobook.
With the launch of the Surface Pro this month and other Windows 8 convertible models, I believe that the short era of Windows RT is almost over. Users simply want more, it appears.
