After a gap of a couple of months, AdDuplex has released its usage report that tallies the Windows ecosystem. And there is not much new here, apart from Windows 11, which has finally made its debut.

The report is collected from some 5,000 Microsoft Store apps running the SDK of the advertising network. Around 60,000 Windows PCs were sampled for this latest report, with intelligence collected over the day of July 26, 2021.

And the big story is that Microsoft’s upcoming OS is now officially on the list.

Insiders running Windows 11 in the Dev channel of the preview program nearly 1% of total devices. The new operating system was formally announced in June, and it has taken but a month to make its presence known in these rankings.

Speaking of presence, Windows 10 version 21H1 that was released in May is now running on over 26% of Windows machines. Like the October 2020 Update for the current OS, this one is also an enablement package that simply turned on the switch on a few new features.

Not surprising, then, that the rollout of this latest version has been notably faster than the previous ones. This will only pick up pace as version 2004 approaches the end of support for consumers, what with its hefty 24.6% slice of the pie.

Windows 10 20Hs2 is still the king of the hill here, with 36.3% to its name.

In fact, the latest three versions of Windows account for close to 88% of the overall usage share.

With Windows 11 standing firm on its steep hardware requirements and a new version of Windows 10 on the horizon, it will be interesting to see how the landscape changes and how soon. There are already plenty of questions about the pace of the rollout of the new OS, and answers should follow.
