Word got out late last week that Microsoft was ready to roll out an impressive $150 discount for the Surface RT. This new discount was not made official then, but Staples already start selling the tablets at the new rates.
Now, Microsoft has officially unveiled the new promotion for its first ever tablet in an attempt to clear out inventories ahead of the looming public debut of the second generation device later this year.
As can be seen on Microsoft’s official website, the Surface RT 32GB is now available for purchase at $349. This new price obviously only includes just the tablet.
A 64GB model, again, tablet only, carries a price tag of $449. Packages that include a Touch Cover are $449 for the 32GB tablet and $549 for the 64GB variant.
This discount does not carry to the accessories that are available for the tablet, and the Surface Type Cover continues to retail for $129.99, while the Touch Cover can be had for slightly less at $119.99.
And as you would expect, this discount campaign has also travelled internationally, brining pretty much similar savings to other regions where the tablet is available, including important markets like the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and Europe overall.
The local versions of Microsoft’s online shopping website have reflected these changes in their respective local currencies, which amount anywhere from £120 for the UK, $150 for Canada, AU$170 for Australia and €150 for the various European regions.
These price cuts show continue efforts from Microsoft to offload stock of the Surface RT as it prepares to unleash a successor to its Windows RT slate. The second generation Surface RT is said to house a powerful and versatile Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset instead of the current NVIDIA Tegra CPU.
