Day 16 of the 30 Days with Surface Pro series examines using Skype, Lync, and other video chat tools to engage with people over the Internet from a Surface Pro.
From a business perspective, there are a number of advantages to deploying Surface Pro tablets to users as opposed to traditional desktop or laptop PCs. One of the most obvious is that the tablet form factor is much more portable than other PCs, which means users can get work done from more place.
The two main apps I looked at are Skype and Lync. From a business perspective again, though, Lync is the more appropriate tool. Lync and Skype have significant overlap in terms of both form and functionality, but Lync is the tool built for business unified communications. It ties back to SharePoint and the broader Microsoft ecosystem, whereas Skype is intended as a consumer-oriented tool.
