One would expect an ultrabook with the word travel in its name to make appearances in markets the world over in a hasty manner, but it has been a while since Acer unveiled its TravelMate P645 and then made it available in Europe.
Now, the company has launched the Windows 8.1 powered laptop in the US and Canada.
The sleek device should appeal to both power users and gamers, thanks to the customizability it offers. A dedicated ATI Radeon graphics chip is available on a 14-inch display with 1920 by 1080 pixels resolution, if you opt for that route.
A less proficient display with 1366 by 768 pixels powered by an Intel HD Graphics is also offered.
When it comes to processors, two choices are given — a Haswell chip, either an Intel Core i5 or the Intel Core i7 paired with 2GB RAM standard. Memory can be increased up to 12GB, and Acer can also bundle in a 256GB SSD for fast and furious storage.
The design of this ultrabook is quiet appealing, with a carbon fiber lid, with a stylish magnesium aluminum base and palm rest to go with a backlit spill resistant keyboard.
Acer has also thrown in some dedicated features for enterprise and business users like TPM module, modern fingerprint scanner and software like the Acer ProShield Manager. The laptop weighs 3.3 pounds, which comes in at 1.49 kg and is only 0.8 mm thin.
The Acer TravelMate P645 hits store shelves later this month, with a price tag of $950 in the United States and $900 in Canada.
