Currently use Acronis True Image software for your PC restoration needs? If so, you might want to know that True Image 2013 doesn’t work properly with Windows 8, despite Acronis advertising that the software is fully compatible for Microsoft’s latest OS.
The culprit is said to be Secure Boot, which is blocking Acronis’ software from performing a PC restore. The good news is that Acronis has spoke up saying they are now aware of the issue and are working to fix the problem within the next few months.
The problem is that Secure Boot is locking out Acronis’ Start Up Manager, which is Linux-based at its root. Here’s what Acronis’ senior VP had to say about the matter:
It’s a problem that’s affected several vendors that use custom unsigned loaders including ourselves. The good news is that we already have a solution that we are testing internally. We plan to release it [at] the beginning of February and roll it up in a general update on the beginning of March.
The bigger question I have is why Acronis didn’t test and figure out this problem way before they launched the newest version of their PC restoration software.
Keep in mind that the problem seems to have to do with the UEFI BIOS and doesn’t necessarily affect everyone out there. There is also a 30-day trial that will let you test Acronis to be sure that it works with your setup before you pay for it.
