Finally! This may just be what leads to the mass adoption of the Windows Store! After years of wait, Microsoft has made official Age of Empires IV, at its Gamescom event, along with a few other surprises.

Namely, remastered versions of the second and third entries in the series.

This popular franchise had already been in the news since E3 this year, where Redmond surprised everyone by announcing the Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, a remastered version of the original game to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

Complete with updated graphics, music and gameplay mechanics.

And it has now been confirmed that this treatment will be given to the two other games in the series, and all three previous titles will be remastered. No love for Age of Mythology, though, a spinoff title in a franchise that has been a staple of gaming history since it launched in 1997.

But perhaps, that is for another day.

For today, we have this trailer for Age of Empires IV, straight from the official Windows channel on YouTube that announces this highly-anticipated game:

Thrilling!

The trailer may be cryptic, but it foreshadows great things to come from a franchise that has sold more than 20 million copies over the ages — pun always intended.

The game is being made by Relic, of Dawn of War, Homeworld, and Company of Heroes fame, meaning it is in good hands. Hopefully, they hit it out of the park, and create a title that is worth all the wait that fans of the RTS genre have been waiting for.

And from the looks of things, it appears that all these games will be exclusive to Windows 10, and launch on the Windows Store. Which may just be the kick that the apps repository needs.

Your thoughts here, folks?
