voices that it is not, though obviously, it is not all that easy to confirm. But another hint has surfaced that says that the build Microsoft accidently leaked last week is not actually the RTM version that we have all been expecting — a new build seems to have been compiled, one with a different build number. As this report on Neowin states, a hotfix released on Patch Tuesday that addresses blurry video previews on camera apps in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 is being delivered to a large number of Windows 8.1 version. Among these is one that has a build number 6.3.9600.17042. The leaked version that hit the web recently was obviously build 17031, meaning that Microsoft has compiled a new build. Of course, no one (apart from the people involved) can tell whether this is true, or whether this version comes with any substantial change or not. Let’s just say BUILD 2014 cannot come here sooner, and call it a day.]]>

  • I’m not quite sure what all the technical stuff means, but what I got out of that was that the official version is probably still private. Is this a bad or good thing? How was the leaked version met by people who downloaded it?

    • I don’t really understand the technical stuff either, Sally. I think the download caused problems and people had to uninstall, which may be why Microsoft changed the update now.

  • Maybe Microsoft put out the update to get a reaction, didnt like the reaction they got, and decided to start over. That seems like a decent possibility at this point.

  • I don’t see any evidence that anyone above the normal percentage of people who have problems with an update had any problems with the update. I go on several sites and have yet to see any site owners or too many members who say it update is not working for them. Most have been pleasantly surprised with the update.. I think the leaked build was probably RTM or close to RTM. When 8.1 came out, Microsoft was still updating it up until the day before it came out. They’re going to do the same with Update 1
