There are strong rumors that Microsoft is ready to launch the second generation Surface tablet soon, and thought the company has hinted at smaller devices in the past, no concrete details have been provided officially so far.

Some expect the next generation Surface RT to be unveiled next month, with sales of the device commencing right before the holiday season rolls around.

But a new report over at DigiTimes seems to claim that Microsoft has pretty much completed the development of the anticipated device and a new Surface tablet could quite possibly be introduced as early as late June.

The launch is one thing, but the pricing of the device is perhaps an even more important factor.

And the infamous sources from the upstream supply chain that DigiTimes so often mentions are claiming that Microsoft is pondering a $249 starting price for the base second-generation Surface RT. No specifics have been provided in this regard, however.

But there is also a chance that Microsoft could up the price tag of the entry level model to $299.

An official announcement from the company is still eagerly awaited. And given the fact that the preview version of Windows 8.1 is set for debut at the BUILD developer conference next month, this may well turn out to be quite an interesting event for fans of Microsoft Surface tablets too.
