The official Foursquare app was confirmed to be in development at the BUILD conference this year, and it has just landed on the Windows Store, sporting both Windows 8 and Windows RT.
Just like the company’s mobile apps on other platforms, this one helps users discover new places, get directions and hours, as well as read and post reviews on these locations. The app is completely optimized for touch, and looks brilliant on both desktops and tablets.
Here is the official description in its entirety:
“Foursquare for Windows 8 helps you make the most of where you are and where you are going. Keep up with your friends and discover great places and activities nearby, on all your Windows devices!”
But while the app makes absolutely great use of the Metro design and exclusive Windows 8 features, it does forego one important feature in this version — the Foursquare news feed.
The company made a decision to remove this feature after factoring in that the core strengths of this app were its recommendations and listings, and not friends activity. Still, according to the company, while friend activity is factored in the recommendations the app puts up, it sits in the background.
This free app is available for all versions of Microsoft’s newest platform, including x86, x64 and ARM.
