When it comes to instant messengers for Windows, there are a few clear favorites. One of them that is enjoying terrific success on Microsoft’s new platform is LINE messenger.

LINE offers an easy way to stay in touch with friends and family, mobile or otherwise. The app can be used on a PC, tablet or smartphone. And along with regular text messages, you can even send photos, videos, voice and graphical icon messages.

The official description sounds appropriately excited:

“Enjoy Free Chat! Emoji message as much as you want! LINE is a new communication messenger which allows you to send FREE Emoji messages whenever and wherever you are, 24 hours a day! LINE has more than 110 million users worldwide and is used in over 231 countries!”

Holy cow, that’s like 1.5 percent of the earth’s (human) population!

Jokes aside, the strongest point of this communication app is its impressive design completely optimized for Microsoft’s newest Windows 8 platform. And speaking of design, the social app offers several emoticons (or Japanese emoji, if you will) giving the experience a very personal touch.

The app recently received a ton of optimizations and bug fixes to ensure the app runs smoothly on Windows 8 devices, particularly tablets. It offers support for all flavors of Windows 8.
