Take a look at competing mobile app stores, particularly Google Play, and you will find an absolute plethora of apps that offer customization, backgrounds, screensavers and whatnot.
For better or for worse (probably the former) this is not quite the case on the Windows Store. Microsoft’s flagship app repository is battling its own form of low quality apps, but most customization apps that are available there offer a neat blend of form and functionality.
One such app is LockPic — it allows you the simple ability to change the background image of your Windows 8 Lock Screen. The app displays images from one of the more popular wallpaper repositories on the web, WallpaperFusion.
Here is a look at the official description:
“Use LockPic to quickly and easily change your Windows 8 Lock Screen image. LockPic is the only app with access to 1000’s of amazing images from WallpaperFusion. It’s completely free and super-easy to use!”
At a mere 0.5MB, the app is a breeze to download, and the Metro inspired interface is clean and straightforward — or in other words, not flashy. The emphasis is on displaying the images, some of which are available on the main screen of the app, and the rest can be found via the built-in search.
Applying a wallpaper is as easy as viewing it in the full screen preview mode, and clicking (or tapping) on the ‘Set as lock screen image’ button. Images can also be downloaded to the desktop.
This popular free app is regularly updated, and supports all versions of Microsoft’s modern operating platform, including those based on the ARM processor architecture.
