Microsoft pulled off a pretty decent Surface unveiling event at NYC earlier today, and one thing about both new tablet models is their focus on increased processing and visual performance — all thanks to some new CPUs powering the slates.
It is only appropriate we start the week with some engaging and immersive new games that have just landed on the Windows Store that put the enhanced prowess to good use on these slates. And believe you me there have been a fair few quality ones that have hit the Store these past few days.
One of the best of the bunch is the charmingly named Reaper. The official description:
“Enter the world ripe with magic and monsters! Become the Black Swordsman and slay thousands of enemies in an epic action RPG!”
This games comes from the house of Hexage — creator of some of the finest mobile games in recent memory. Titles like Robotek and Radiant are modern day masterpieces. And Reaper is no different. You will have to think really hard to find a better presented game on the Windows Store.
But while the game may be one of the best looking ones around (the trademark Hexage glow is there and accounted for in the visuals), it also plays perfectly well.
At its core it is an action game with role playing elements thrown in. You control your character using the keyboard (or an Xbox 360 controller), and there is a lot of variety in the amount of maps, enemies and weapons. A short tutorial is also included to get players up and running.
The game is free, but only up until level 10, whereby you will be required to purchase the premium version. Which actually supports both all versions of Windows 8, including ARM based ones.
