Bill Gates has just completed a significant milestone. According to this year’s list by Forbes, Microsoft’s co-founder has remained the richest person in the United States for 20 consecutive years.
Gates finds himself leading the charts in the annual list of the richest people in the United States, with a net worth estimated to be in the range of $72 billion. Warren Buffet, once again, takes the runners up position with $58.5 billion.
Forbes rolled out the updated Forbes 400 list recently, noting that Gates remains the richest person in the country, even after having given away $28 billion of his fortune — most of it to his non-profit organization, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
And impressively, his stake in Redmond represents only a fraction of his fortune:
“His stake in Microsoft represents less than a fifth of his fortune. Gates’ investment firm, Cascade, owns chunks of tractormaker Deere & Co., Canadian National Railway and Mexican Coke bottler Femsa.”
Outgoing Microsoft CEO, and close friend of Gates, Steve Ballmer peaked at position 21 this year. His net worth came in at $18 billion. Another Microsoft personality, co-founder Paul Allen had to settle on number 26 thanks to his $15.8 billion.
Jeff Bezos of Amazon, who came in twelfth place with $27.2 billion, Larry Page of Google at thirteenth with $24.9 billion and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in twentieth position with $19 billion are the major highlights in the technology sector.

If an editor reads this, you may want to check spelling in the phrase in the first paragraph “has remained the richest parson…..” should be “richest PERSON”….
Thanks, man. 🙂 Fixed!
