All the hoopla about new operating system and tablet releases may have diverted the attention from the fact that Microsoft is looking for a new CEO to replace Steve Ballmer.

And while a few still see company co-founder Bill Gates as the most logical choice for the hot seat, the man himself has maintained that he has no intention to switch to a fulltime role at the technology company — his worldwide charity works takes absolute precedence.

Nevertheless, the chairman of the company did have something to say on the matter.

Talking to the Financial Times in a recent interview, Gates confirmed that he will work with the new Microsoft CEO closely and help him or her come to grips with the tasks at hand. And while he cannot dedicate full time to the company, he will spend considerable time with the new leader.

This is to make sure that Microsoft’s new direction is the right one.

Redmond is still deciding upon the new CEO to take the reins over from Steve Ballmer, who is set for retirement as soon as a replacement is found, or within one year max from the day he made his retirement plans public.

While a decision is expected to be made by the end of the year, some of the names that are said to be top choices include former Nokia boss Stephen Elop and Alan Mulally of Ford.
