Good old Bill is in the news again. Forbes just released their rich list for the year, and Bill Gates ended up being the richest individual on it for the sixteenth time.
Buoyed, of course, by the good fortunes of the Microsoft stock that he owns.
Shares of the Redmond based technology giant have been on an upwards trend recently. Overall, though, the Microsoft founder saw his net worth rise by around $3 billion this past year, and according to calculations by February 13, he owned assets to the tune of a delightful $79 billion.
Gates has now topped this list 16 times in the past 21 years.
Carlos Slim Helu, the Mexican phones and construction tycoon is in second place, close enough with an estimated $77.1 billion.
Warren Buffett regained third place with net worth estimated to be $72.7 billion.
Technology, however, dominates the overall list, with Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook making the top twenty for the first time, after climbing five places in the rankings at number 16. His net worth is listed as $33.4 billion.
Evan Spiegel makes an entry as the youngest billionaire in the world with a fortune of $1.5 billion. He is the co-founder of messaging app Snapchat.
