Bloomberg seems to have the lowdown on an important change that is set to take place at Microsoft. The company is already going through a major transformation and reorganization process.
But along with a new CEO that will take charge at the Redmond office, Bill Gates, it seems will also take up a new role at the company. People close to the matter suggest that he will resign from his position as chairman and will be replaced by John Thompson.
The latter is currently in charge of the board committee tasked with finding a new CEO.
And the report further claims that this switch of role is actually conditioned by the selection of Satya Nadella as the company CEO — Gates is said to be a strong supporter of the cloud chief.
Even more remarkable is the news that Bill Gates is also pondering a sort of a gradual return to the company. There are rumors that he will remain within the company and work on what are being called some “must-have products”.
Heaven knows what these are, almost are Microsoft products are must-have, when you think about it.
Nevertheless, Gates and Nadella are expected to form a bit of a team that will work on new innovative products, with the co-founder planning to work at least one day a week with the technology titan, while spending the rest of his time with his charity organization.
Interesting development, but it does mean that outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer will no longer be part of the upper management going forward. Interesting indeed.
All said and done, there is no doubt that Microsoft would benefit from the involvement of Bill Gates, his expertise, experience and knowledge in technology. Don’t you guys think?

Woke up early 4:30am and -10º to install windows 8.1 update 1, and while it is doing that thought I would read eyeonwindows and have a cup of tea.
I guess all the talk the past few days about Sundar Pichai becoming CEO is BS!
I might download it after a couple more builds come out
I hear ya, @disqus_aUjJoK3PRk:disqus. I’d love to have it installed right now, but I’ll wait until the official update comes out, at least.
