The immediate benefit of the One Microsoft philosophy is faster updates to core Microsoft apps and services, and the company has just announced that owners of Windows Phone 8 devices can now install and download updated versions of two of its Bing apps.
Bing Weather and Bing Sports have just received new enhancements on the Windows Phone Store.
First up is Bing Weather, and users that update to the new flavor can now see current weather and snow details at ski resorts around the globe. In addition to this, they now have more options to display weather history and additional metrics like the UV index.
Michael Stroh of Microsoft explained these improvements in a blog post:
“And that’s not all. Other notable changes include revamped Live Tiles displaying current conditions, wind-speed, and precipitation—with a 5-day forecast on the flip side. But my favorite addition is new lock screen support for at-a-glance weather updates. Give it a try and see what you think.”
Sports fans can also rejoice, as the Bing Sports app now offers expanded coverage. 30 new sports are now added including tennis, rugby, LPGA, NASCAR and Champions League football (or soccer, for that matter). The blog post details this as:
“The app already supplies top headlines, scores, schedules, standings, and stats. But now you can also track sports and players that matter to you most—so the app feels a lot more personal.”
Both apps are now available on the Windows Phone Store. Bing Weather is up for grabs as version 2.0.2.170, and Bing Sports now carries the version number 2.0.2.177.
