You may be all too familiar with such cloudy terms as SaaS (software-as-a-Service) and IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service). Now get ready to be acclimatized with something that CloudOpt calls Speed-as-a-Service.
The company’s forte is WAN optimization for the cloud, and today it has announced that its data acceleration solution has expanded availability to Microsoft Windows Azure.
Initially it is only available in the Azure US-West and US-North Central regions, but CloudOpt plans to expand it to other Windows Azure regions in due time.
The service accelerates the movement of data to or from the Windows Azure cloud, with claimed reduction in data transfer times and costs by up to 90 percent.
Dave Burow, CEO of CloudOpt said in a prepared statement:
“By dramatically improving the speed of large data transfers and remote application access Speed-as-a-Service enables users to get the most out of Windows Azure. Applications that were formerly impractical are now possible.”
The Speed-as-a-Service solution is accessed via easy-to-install Windows or Linux clients, and since it is delivered completely as a service, no additional hardware or software is necessary.
Windows Azure customers can use this service to transfer large amounts of data in and out of the cloud, including backup and restoration of data, database replication, and big data uploads as well as migration of applications to the Azure platform.
You can find out more about the service at the official site, including the free 15-day trial.
