AMD tablets show up as well. That being said, one of the “most exciting” mobile chips was supposed to be the new Atom Z2760, or what we all know as Clover Trail. While this new processor is in fact out, we haven’t seen it as much as we thought we would. The low power chip is supposed to be nearly as effective as ARM chips in power consumption but slightly more powerful and with full support for legacy Windows apps. That being said, many of the devices announced to use the chip have yet to show up in the market. Before the release of Windows 8 and Windows RT, we did hear rumors that Microsoft was delaying Clover Trail due to issues with the power management software, so this could still be part of the reason. Still, a few devices have made it to the market with the processor in toe. One example is the Samsung ATIV Smart PC, which is found through NewEgg. From the sounds of it though, the few Clover Trail devices that are out in the wild are in very short supply. In fact, only two brands seem to actively have Clover Trail processors so far, that’s Acer and Samsung. That leaves out announced models from Asus, Lenovo, Dell and HP. It’s hard to say what is causing this shortage in the chip. Either they are running into issues or it has been decided that the processors aren’t as good as Intel thought they were. All we can do for now is wait and see. It’s very possible that we will soon see Clover Trail tablets flood the market and that this delay is just temporary. Are you interested in a tablet with the next-gen Atom processor? Or are your sights set on a different Intel/AMD chip, or maybe you are looking to get a Windows RT device? [ source ]]]>
