Application compatibility has traditionally been a very strong suite of the Windows operating platform. In fact, some would even say it is one of the very reasons for its absolute dominance.
But while most software programs play nicely in upgraded versions of Windows, there are some that could be disabled, blocked, break or change behavior after upgrading to a new flavor. This holds true for some applications on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2.
And Microsoft has just revealed a list of software that could, potentially, be incompatible with the newest version of the operating system.
While the company is trying to ensure that no compatibility issue exists in Windows 8.1 it has rolled out a compatibility update that changes behavior of the some of these popular applications — and yes, major security and antivirus programs are all in.
Titles like Panda Security, ZoneAlarm, Trend Micro, Titanium, Outpost Antivirus Pro 8 and MacAfee security products are on the list, as is Visual Studio 2012.
The aforementioned update is for machines that are to be updated to Windows 8.1, and improves user experience by fixing certain issues in these applications.
Additionally, SuperNova cannot be installed on Windows 8.1, Microsoft explains, and users will get access to a URL with more information about the product. But by and large, this is pretty standard stuff that could use some tweaks in the new operating system.
