Redmond rolled out Patch Tuesday updates for the month of July, with a total of seven different updates, six of which come with the Critical label, while one is rated as Important.
A number of vulnerabilities have been fixed including Internet Explorer, the Kernel-Mode Driver, Media Format Runtime, GDI, and Silverlight have all received critical fixes. Microsoft however recommends users to prioritize the deployment of Internet Explore and Kernel-Mode Driver fixes.
In the description of bulletin MS13-053 aimed at Kernel-Mode drivers, the company says:
“This security update resolves two publicly disclosed and six privately reported vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows.
The most severe of these vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted document or visits a malicious webpage that embeds TrueType font files. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system.”
No matter if you are an end user, or a system administrator, make sure you deploy the IE and Kernel-Mode Driver update first and foremost.
The Windows Defender bulletin is the one rated as Important.
As usual, all patches are delivered through the integrated Windows Update tool. So just make sure you connect your computer to the Internet and the operating system will download and deploy these vital security fixes.
