It was time. Dell has provided two of its most popular laptops a refresh, announcing a new model of the XPS 13 notebook, as well as refreshed the Inspiron line with upgraded hardware.
And yes, the newly launched 8th generation Intel processors are smack in the center here.
By most counts, the Dell XPS 13 is the most popular laptop that the company makes right now. Billed as the smallest 13-inch laptop in the world, thanks to its small bezels, it now comes with a choice of the latest Core i5 or Core i7 Kaby Lake processors.
The former runs at 1.4GHz with a turbo of 3.4GHz, while the latter beats at 1.8GHz, and turbos to 4GHz.
Dell claims that these new chips bring up to 40% better performance compared to the previous ones.
Other than that, the XPS 13 is a standard affair.
You get up to 16GB or RAM, PCIe based storage in capacities of 128, 256 or 512GB, or a 1TB standard hard drive. Throw in the QHD+ 3200 x 1800 pixels display on the front, and claimed battery life of 13 hours when watching Netflix, and you have a machine.
On the Inspiron convertible side of things, the most interesting in the list is the first 17-inch 2-in-1 in the world, the Inspiron 7000.
It comes with a Full HD IPS touchscreen display, to go with 7th generation Intel processors, along with USB Type-C for connectivity. Need something smaller? Then the line also offers 13 and 15-inch variants, under the Inspiron 3000 and 5000 nomenclatures.
Prices start at $800 for the Dell XPS 13, while the Inspiron lineup begins at $750.
