mentioned what exactly is coming, the announcement states that the UI on both Windows and Mac desktop clients will be revised to give it a more modern and cleaner look and feel. The blog post states:
“With this in mind, we recently started testing a refreshed UI on a small portion of Windows desktop users. And soon, some Skype for Mac users will see the new experience, too. The new UI aims to bring a clean and modern look to Skype, providing you with a delightful and coherent experience across all clients.”This was, obviously, a small test, but Microsoft plans to closely analyze the results and then make a decision whether the Skype for Windows is actually ready to handle these modern enhancements. For the time being, the company will be refining the experience before rolling it out for users. Redmond purchased Skype back in 2011 for the sweet sum of $8.5 billion, and it has now become a key element in the overall future strategy for Microsoft.]]>

Great news. I’m glad Microsoft recognizes just how important Skype is for the company going forward! I hope they continue to expand and improve this awesome application! 🙂
I agree, Elaine. This is encouraging. Microsoft needs to market Skype as a better and more complex Google hangouts, which it is. I want Skype to get bigger and bigger!
