What is pretty much confirmed now is that this was another test that Redmond performed ahead of early April launch. Obviously, they are still available on the web — if you know where to look, that is. Users, however, are recommended to wait for the public launch and only deploy the new OS in early April when the software titan pushes it through officially. Since interest is Update 1 is very high, tampered versions could be a possibility. Besides, there is no indication that the leaked builds, including the one that was put up yesterday, were stable, final versions of the operating system, completely free of bugs. And while Microsoft is yet to reveal the launch date, sources close to the matter have hinted that MSDN subscribers will get it on April 1 or 2, just ahead of the BUILD developer conference. Why does Microsoft keep releasing the leaks and then taking them down right away? I’m afraid it may do more harm than good! I don’t see the benefit in it at this point.
Obviously, Snowden has joined Microsoft.
I’m assuming they got a lot of feedback yesterday that downloading 6 different links in a particular order wasn’t worth it to people, especially when the official version comes out in no time. This doesn’t surprise me at all.
I wonder if this is leading up to one big April Fool’s Day joke. Because other than that, I can’t make much sense to what Microsoft is doing.
Well after 2 or 3 leak days, enough of us have it, and everyone else can wait on the official release. I actually don’t think it hurts to tease a little at all. Hopefully anyone complaining about not getting it early enough will just be quiet now. Now everyone will really be anticipating BUILD.
A key in this is that people can still get it if they really wanted. I assume everyone who knows about/wants the leaked version also has the computer literacy to find it if they want.
This story just isn’t adding up for me. Did Microsoft discuss this as a strategic way to create publicity, or do they simply keep trying to release a good version and realize it isn’t ready? Something smells fishy and I’m not sure what’s going on.
I do not believe that it is Microsoft themselves that are leaking the update files. I feel like these files are for targeted testing and one or a few of those testers are responsible for the leaks. That makes more sense to me.
