So as you all may or may not know, I have been busy with my other company Learn About The Web and have only had one eye on this site.
The cool thing about it is, just like you I get to read comprehensive Microsoft news here on my own site. My writers are awesome!
Anyway, one of the articles I saw was the one about Microsoft saying Ballmer hasn’t gotten a fair shake from the media. I couldn’t disagree more.
I have seen at least 10 articles in the past few days that give Mr. Ballmer his props for being a good steward of Microsoft resources and keeping the company stable through turbulent times.
Mr. Ballmer’s case I believe is a case of “be careful what you ask for because you just might get it”. I actually wrote an article about that yesterday on SeekingAlpha that you all might want to read, it’s pretty interesting.

Steve Ballmer, the CEO of Microsoft (MSFT) has announced that he will be leaving Microsoft within the next calendar year.
It’s a big deal and the entire tech world has been left reeling. The implications of his departure are pretty huge and it’s like the entire technology community is taking time to process the news.
Here are some of my observations about the departure that are troubling.
Microsoft say they started planning for his departure several years ago.
In an interview with Mary Jo Foley, Mr. Ballmer said that the company had been planning this for a few years. He intimated that the company had been looking at (and talking to) internal and external candidates for years.
That’s pretty strange to me. Even though the Microsoft business is massive, 4 years? Really?
It seemed abrupt
From the timing of it (Friday morning), to the manner in which it was done (sudden email blast that was open ended to the company), it didn’t seem like something that was planned very far in advance. It seemed a little surreal…

Excellent article! And agreed, it does not seem like the decision was in planning for 4 years, 4 months maybe, considering how sudden it was. We probably would have heard more about his retirement (from insider sources, at least) otherwise.

Yep, I also think this cover story is a little “too convenient” regarding the timing of all that’s been shaking up in Redmond lately.
Now we know why Sinofsky left in such a hurry — to hookup with Ballmer. Hah!
