The first preview cumulative update for the recently released Windows 11 2022 Update is here, and it includes a few handy fixes and a bunch of improvements.

KB5017389 is the name of the game here.

This particular cumulative update does not contain any security improvements, and Microsoft does not require you to install it as soon as possible. In that sense, it is a chilled-out release introducing a few enhancements.

Most notably, Widgets notifications, patches for the Microsoft Store, daylight saving time improvements in Chile, and all that good stuff that one expects.

First, Microsoft has addressed issues that were causing updates for the Microsoft Store to fail. The company also fixed a problem that forced the IE mode tabs in a session to reload. Also taken care of is an issue that affected Dual SIM calling, where users were unable to initiate a call.

The cumulative update also adds more dynamic Widget content to your taskbar with notification badging. When you open the Widgets board, a banner appears at the top, providing more information about what triggered the notification badge.

Also updated is the daylight-saving time in Chile, which will now start on September 11, 2022, instead of September 4, 2022.

If you prefer manual installation, you can download KB5017389 either via Windows Update or from the Windows Update Catalog.

Redmond will, of course, include these fixes in the upcoming Patch Tuesday updates, so there is no need to rush in and install this particular release. That is, unless you want a specific fix or feature that is mentioned above.
