All the attention in the world is shifting towards the second generation Surface tablets, with both the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2 now available for preorder.
Microsoft will push all its weight behind making the revamped slates a success.
But while the company will continue selling the first generation Surface RT, it recently confirmed in a short statement that the current Surface Pro will not be available for purchase, come October 22. Not many details were provided in that statement, though.
Now, however, the technology titan has put things straight.
It has revealed that the original Surface Pro will only be removed from retail sales channel, and instead this particular model will only be sold via commercial resellers.
UberGizmo has the full statement that details this:
“Surface Pro will continue to be available via authorized commercial resellers. However, after October 22, Surface Pro will no longer be available for purchase from Microsoft or its retail partners in most markets where Surface Pro 2 is sold.”
Whether these commercial resellers put up some discounts (whether officially or on their own) remains to be see — but those interested in the first generation Surface Pro now at least have an option.
The Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2, on the other hand, are now available for preorder. Shipments of these refreshed tablets will begin on October 22, four days after the launch of Windows 8.1.
