Spoke too soon? It seems like you will have to wait a while to test the impressive new DirectStorage feature, as the poster child of this new technology on PC has been delayed.
Forespoken, the anticipated action RPG has been delayed to January 24, 2023.
And with no other game currently on the horizon with support for DirectStorage, those of you looking forward to enjoying this shiny new technology will have to wait until next year. Unless one of the upcoming titles pulls a fast one before launch later this year.
Of course, this is not the first time Forspoken has missed its target. The game was initially set for arrival on May 25 this year before being pushed to October. Now, developer Luminous Productions has stated that it wants another three months after strategic discussions with key partners.

Enthusiasts will, no doubt, be disappointed with this news.
But that’s just how things are.
This was to be—and likely will be—the first game to feature this new digital doohickey. While the debut of DirectStorage has been delayed, the technology still holds immense potential to improve future games.
For those of you who are unaware of how this thing actually works, DirectStorage is part of the much-touted Xbox Velocity Architecture. This new technology promises to deliver faster load times and more expensive worlds by using parallelization to reduce the volume of I/O operations.
That is, input/output operations.
AMD and NVIDIA each have their own versions of the technology, known as SmartAccess Storage and RTX IO, respectively. Modern consoles also fully use it.
Microsoft launched the DirectStorage API for Windows back in March, making it compatible with both Windows 11 and Windows 10.
Now, if we can just get a game that features it.
If only.
