Futuremark Announces PCMark 8 Benchmark For Windows
Ever since the release of Windows 8, the folks over at Futuremark have been rather busy. The company recently released the latest version of 3DMark, its popular graphics and processor benchmark suite for Windows Vista, 7 and 8.
It was soon followed by a dedicated version for Android devices.
And earlier today, the company has just announced a new version of another popular PC benchmarking program that goes by the name of PCMark. According to the company’s press release, PCMark 8 is scheduled for release later this year:
“Whether you are looking for long battery life, maximum power, for the home or at the office, PCMark 8 will help you find the devices that offer the perfect combination of efficiency and performance for your needs.
PCMark 8 will be available in several editions ranging from a free to download Basic Edition to a fully-featured Professional Edition designed for device manufacturers, businesses and the press.”
PCMark 8 is designed for two of the latest versions of Windows — Windows 7 and Windows 8. Unlike 3DMark that tests hardware and graphics for gaming purposes, PCMark concentrates on testing performance of regular PC activities like web browsing, photo editing, video chat, etc.
The company says that PCMark 8 will bring a few new tests that will be based on application from Microsoft and Adobe — though no specifics have been revealed.
The benchmark will also test battery usage for the first time, offering estimates of battery use for each individual test, or allowing users to put a test in an infinite loop until the battery in the device completely depletes.
Futuremark confirms that PCMark 8 is in the final stages of development with a public released by the end of June in a number of editions. Pricing for the premium versions is yet to be unveiled.
