Well, let’s see it! Microsoft finally announced HoloLens 2 in February of this year, after a long wait. But it now appears that you will not have to wait long to get your hands on the device.
The company packed in a wide array of improvements in this successor to its augmented reality headset.
Including much weight distribution for more comfort, to go with a a new carbon fiber build, as well as a wider field of view. There is even support for finger tracking in this new device, which is powered by the impressive new Qualcomm Snapdragon 850.
As opposed to the old Intel chip used in the original HoloLens.
All that is fine and well, but the real question is what kind of an approach Microsoft is taking with its new headset, which is what will determine its success in the field.
Well, as reported by Reuters, Microsoft’s executive vice president Harry Shum has revealed that the HoloLens will be available to buy in September. He was speaking at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference, in Shanghai.
The device is still aimed at businesses, with only the commercial edition being announced.
And a reflection of that is that HoloLens 2 costs a bit more than the original, with the HoloLens 2 Development Edition tagged with the asking price of $3,500. That said, the headset will be available for purchase in plans for around $99 a month.
