Fans of Windows Phone have one more excuse for celebration in the very near future. Nokia has just announced that the official Instagram app will be available for the platform in the coming weeks.
The Finnish telecom giant has been actively trying to convince the social photo service to port its app to Microsoft’s mobile platform, and though there are a couple of really good third party solutions available on the Windows Phone Store, users can now look forward to the original.
Stephen Elop said at the Nokia World event earlier today that both Nokia and Microsoft collaborated together to bring Instagram to Windows Phone users — the official app is expected to go live in the coming weeks.
Kevin Systrom, CEO and cofounder of Instagram had this to say on the occasion:
“Our ultimate goal is to bring Instagram to everyone who wants to use it…We’re looking forward to watching the Windows Phone community use Instagram to capture and share beautiful moments in the coming weeks.”
There you have it ladies and gentlemen, another official gem in the bag!
Upon release on Windows Phone, Blackberry will remain the last major (arguable, I know) platform that does not have an official app of the popular service. Still, this will go a long way in remedying the lack of official apps situation on Redmond’s ever growing mobile operating system.
Stay tuned for more on this in the near future.
