Word is that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is all set to announce a major new restructuring plan for the Redmond based technology titan. All signs point to an official announcement in the next couple of days.
And now news has come out that the software giant is ready to put Windows boss Julie Larson-Green in charge of its fledging new hardware engineering business.
Bloomberg, citing unnamed insiders obviously, reports that Skype president Tony Bates will be made responsible for acquisitions and relationships with software developers — this is obviously the company’s new role that outlines Microsoft’s renewed efforts to get close to developers.
All these changes are supposed to streamline the company and get it closer to the devices and services approach that Steve Ballmer has so often talked about.
Julie Larson-Green is currently in charge of the Windows division — and the high profile executive is seen by some as one of the potential CEOs after Ballmer’s retirement.
In her new role in the hardware division, she would be responsible for everything related to hardware engineering. And this obviously covers devices like the Xbox gaming consoles and Surface tablets.
All said and done, this is turning out to be quite a major reshuffle, one that could see CEO Steve Ballmer change some key positions in the company. With an announcement expected next week, don’t be surprised to see some executives taking on different positions.
