We are well and truly living in the age of Intel Bay Trail. The Atom brand seem to have found a new life, what with the arrival of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, and the apparent flux of devices Microsoft’s modern operating platform has spawned.
Better yet, notebooks seem to have found a new life of their own too.
Hardware vendors are experimenting not just with screen types and sizes, but also form factors of laptops. New designs are announced regularly. Lenovo has announced a new 10-inch touchscreen to its popular Flex line — and the device has already been spotted in a few markets.
The new Lenovo Flex 10 comes with a 10.1-inch touchscreen with a perfectly serviceable display resolution of 1366 by 768. But the real strength of this device is in the processors department.
More specifically, four Bay Trail solutions are on offer, ranging from 1.46GHz to 2GHz, Intel Celeron to Intel Pentium based dual-cores and quad-cores. These are paired with either 2GB or 4GB of RAM.
The device can be used in either laptop mode, or you can rotate the screen, hide the keyboard and enjoy browsing or movie playback via touch. Windows 8.1 comes preinstalled.
Lenovo promises up to 4 hours of battery life, which apparently is the only major disappointment of this laptop. But if you can work around this limitation, you can grab the Flex 10 for around $460.
