The future, in case you were not aware, is Metro. Microsoft is betting big on touch usage of computing devices, and all its latest operating systems are a testament to its belief in this philosophy.
Microsoft even teased an early alpha version of PowerPoint at BUILD that was designed for the Modern UI, and explained that a touch-optimized version of the Office suite of productivity applications would hit the store shelves in the coming months.
ZDNet has the details on this and in a new report says that the Metro styled Microsoft Office is on track to arrive sometime in 2014.Metro versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and all other bundled tools will be available for all Windows 8.1 devices.
This is actually part of the Gemini product cycle that has been reported earlier.
The new Office suite will come with a UI that is optimized for touch usage, and Microsoft is aiming to provide many, if not all, of the features that are part of the standard desktop package.
Redmond obviously refused to comment on the potential release date of Metro Office, but considering the fact that the software titan already presented a Modern UI version of PowerPoint yesterday at BUILD, we should have more information on this heading our way soon.
