Surface web page with details of the long awaited Surface Pro. While no exact date has been given, the Surface Pro is apparently going to start at $899. You can see the specs below (click to enlarge) [caption id="attachment_31566" align="alignnone" width="640"] Surface Specifications[/caption] You can also download the specs from here. Now, let’s talk shop. It looks like it starts at $900 dollars (without a keyboard). That gets you the 64 Gig option. So I’m guessing that approx $1200 to $1500 will get you the 128 Gig model. It comes with a Pen input and pen. The CPU is pretty decent – a 3rd Gen Intel Core i5 Processor with Intel HD Graphics 4000. The display is a ClearType Full HD Display at 1920×1080 pixels. They have the warning in there
“*System software uses significant storage space. Available storage is subject to change based on system software updates and apps usage.”ÂAnd of course, the big deal is here:
Runs current Windows 7 desktop applications and integrates with your existing enterprise management infrastructure. Use the programs and the apps available in the Windows Store. This is going to be interesting to see. Note: It doesn’t seem like any covers are included (Touch or Type). So that adds between $120 to $160 to the price of the unit. So the base model will run you a minimum of about $1100 with keyboard and taxes included. It looks like a STRONG enterprise play and may catch fire among businesses who have been looking for a tablet. Consumers however…. Seems to me that it’s a STEEP hurdle to climb to ask a civilian to pay $1100 for a tablet (even with a keyboard). However if the Surface Pro can really show a lot of value and the screen is perceived as wide enough, they can pick up some Apple MacBook Pro shoppers. I’ll get one to review on the site. Stay tuned… Update The Microsoft Blog has clarified pricing:

Wow! That’s a lot of moola!!
If this is introduced at these prices it will more than likely be an enterprise device only. Microsoft will be shooting themselves in the foot once again. Even for those of us who can afford this price structure, lets face it this is still a niche device and needs to/has to prove itself!
Lets bring down the prices by about $200 for both units and I know I would buy and my would would buy for out side sales, but if not they will switch to ipads. I have the money for the ipad but was waiting for the price anouncement for the win pro. If they bring it down I would buy. else here comes the ipad. I will have to wait until release date.
then , good lock with ipad.
Luck.
For the 128 GB model, that price is about in line with my Samsung Series 7 Slate tablet, which I think was just over $1200.00 with the Bluetooth keyboard, docking station, and portfolio type case/stand. However, the Samsung has an 11.6″ display and a micro HDMI port, but its one USB port is only 2.0 instead of 3.0.
I saw a Surface for the first time yesterday, and one thing I REALLY like about it is that the plug for the power adapter is magnetic, so if it gets bumped hard during use, it will just come off instead of breaking.
I don’t consider this overpriced at all. If I didn’t already own an Asus Ep121 Eee Slate I would buy this. It has better specs than my Ep121 and 200.00 cheaper. Those comparing this with an iPad or Android Tablet don’t really have a clue. If those tablets are doing everything you need, great but don’t try to compare them. They are worlds apart. The Window 8 Pro tablet is a full Windows PC in a tablet form factor. The USB 3.0 and display would be worth the difference to me. It also looks like it also has a higher capacity battery than my Ep121. I get about 3-4 hours battery life with an i5 processor, 64 GB SSD drive and 4 GB ram but a 1280×800 display. I can’t use snap either and have 2 USB 2.0 ports with mini HDMI. Mine came with Windows 7 but I upgraded to Windows 8 as soon as it was available.
An absolute copy of the Apple tablet huh?. Why can’t you come up with your own designs instead of copying Apple?. Damb idiots is what I call you if you’re just going to copy what Apple have already brought out. I have an Android phone but that is as far as I’m going to go. Apple brought out this tablet two years ago. Were you all sleeping at Windows while this was going on or what?.
