The past year or so has seen a bit of a shuffle among the ranks of higher officials in Microsoft, with a number of popular and influential figures leaving or retiring, and new faces taking their places.

And now the technology titan has just announced that Carlos de Torres would become its new vice president of advertising and online in Canada, effective July 1.

De Torres will replace Owen Sagness, who will in fact be transferred to London, United Kingdom and will take over the role of general manager advertising and online at the company’s local division in the UK. Carlos de Torres said in a statement:

“It is a privilege to join the Canadian team during these exciting times, and I will give my best to develop a strategic business for Microsoft in the coming years. I am very grateful for the opportunity and privilege to contribute to the growth of Microsoft here in Canada.”

The new vice president for advertising will be responsible for the advertising campaigns behind several products — from Windows 8 to Xbox, Skype, Windows Phone, and obviously Bing and MSN. All these services and products represent the long term future strategy of the technology titan.

More importantly, this shows the increased emphasis Microsoft is placing on both Canada, and the United Kingdom, two of its most important markets.
