Time for another celebration! Microsoft announced Outlook.com exactly one year back. The web-based email service launched as a public preview, before officially launching in February 2013.
Since then there has been no looking back — none at all.
Microsoft soon pulled the plug off the popular Hotmail brand, and took on the gargantuan task of transitioning all 400 million users of the retired service to Outlook.com. And today, the technology titan is celebrating the one year anniversary of the Outlook.com reveal.
A new blog post, along with an enlightening new infographic, shows several of the highlights from the past year. Dick Craddock, the group program manager of Outlook.com thanked the users saying:
“You’ve been a tremendous help in making Outlook.com a better service for all of us-and the world’s fastest growing email service-so we want to take a moment to say thank you. Your feedback has been key to delivering over 600 additions, changes and improvements, packaged in 34 feature releases in the last year.”
600 additions, changes and improvements, you say? Rousing and stirring!
The popular email service has now become a hub of the connected experience, and forms an integral part of Redmond’s future strategy. Things like Skype video messaging, support for Google Talk, and options to sign in with an alias are just some of the notable additions.
Microsoft is aware that users have been asking for a couple of more changes, but confirms that it is working on implementing them. These changes, along with improved performance, reliability and stability are high on the agenda.
