Redmond will officially launch Windows 8.1 (codename Windows Blue) on June 26 at the BUILD developer conference, and the company is using the opportunity to highlight several new Metro apps.

Windows Store has, in the past month or two, has seen several quality additions. Developers, large and small, around the world have intensified their efforts to code — new apps and existing ports — for the Windows 8 platform.

Steve Guggenheimer, the chief evangelist for Windows explained in a post:

“This is really just the tip of the iceberg and some really great examples of apps landing on the Windows platform. The excitement is continuing to grow and our entire team is excited to spend some time with developers from around the world next week in San Francisco at Build. Whether you will be able to join us live or follow along remotely, we’re excited to share even more exciting news next week!”

The company talked about a numb of popular new apps that recently landed on the Windows Store, including VEVO and edjing.

Of particular interest is the news that Disney’s new puzzle game ‘Where’s My Mickey?’ is about to make its debut on Windows 8 soon. The platform could use as much high profile apps as it can right now, and this shows the increasing importance it is gaining.

Windows 8.1 on the other hand also packs several new Metro apps, from an alarm utility to Movie Moments, a video editor that offers users the ability to add simple effects to their clips.
