Most of you may have already heard by now that Windows XP will no longer receive update and security patches come April 8, 2014, as this is the date Microsoft has decided it will end supporting the OS.
The software titan is now recommending the Windows XP user base to upgrade to either Windows 7, or preferably Windows 8 — both of which Redmond considers much safer operating systems, at least compared to the 11-year old Windows XP.
But while convincing businesses and enterprises locally in the United States is one thing, it takes an altogether different effort to convince users across the globe to do so.
And to help with this Microsoft has launched a new contest aimed at small and medium sized businesses in Thailand that still have computers powered by Windows XP to attract them to upgrade to the latest version of Windows, namely Windows 8.
Microsoft is calling this new campaign the “Get2Modern SME IT Makeover Contest”.
And interestingly, it calls for enterprises to upload a photo of their existing workspace with an explanation why they need to make the switch to Windows 8 and Office 2013.
The winners will receive some very alluring prizes, including Windows 8 Pro notebooks and tablets, and even transition services worth $6,000. This contest will officially end on June 15.
