Microsoft has made official another affordable model in its mobile range. The Lumia 540 is a 5-inch smartphone with dual SIM capabilities and comes with Windows Phone 8.1 Lumia Denim out of the box.

Which is, of course, fully upgradeable to Windows 10 for Phones when the new OS launches.

You get a HD display here with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution, in an aspect ratio of 16:9. A 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor powers the device, and the phone also comes with an 8 megapixel rear camera with flash and a 5 megapixel front option for selfies.

And video calling, of course.

The company announced this phone, saying:

“Being a Smart Dual SIM smartphone, you can create unique profiles for each SIM card so you always know who’s calling, regardless of which number they’ve dialed. Thanks to the call-forwarding feature, you can stay constantly connected, too.”

Here’s a video clip showing the Lumia 540 in action:

One important highlight here is that this phone comes with a full 1GB of RAM. Windows 10 for Phones requires this much for a full experience, as handsets with 512MB of memory will not receive all features of the new operating system.

It also comes with 8GB of internal storage, with support for microSD cards of up to 128GB in capacity.

The Lumia 540 goes on sale in select regions next month (IMEA, APAC and Italy), with a price of $149. Several color options are available, from cyan and orange to white and matte black.
