Microsoft and students go a long way. The technology titan has regularly put up special offers, particularly targeting college and university students, from Xbox 360 consoles to discounted software.
And now the technology titan is back with more free goodies.
This time the company is tempting students with a new SkyDrive campaign that offers them 3GB of extra storage for a full year. All they have to do is sign up with their .edu email address — meaning the offer is open to students in the United States.
If you are student and have an official .edu email address from your institute, then all you need to do is sign up by visiting this website. Just make sure you sign up with your .edu email address. Microsoft will then verify your email address and send you a unique code to extend your SkyDrive storage.

“Voucher valid for an extra 3 GB of free SkyDrive storage for one year. Voucher must be redeemed by 12/31/13. 3 GB storage expires one year from voucher redemption. Limit: one voucher per person. Not redeemable for cash or gift cards. Single use only. This voucher is non-transferrable, and may only be redeemed by U.S. college students.”
Currently SkyDrive users get 7GB of storage space to host their files, free of charge, that is. And this 3GB of extra storage will help users backup even more data in the cloud.
The extra storage obviously expires after one year, meaning you will have to either purchase a paid subscription or downgrade the capacity of your account.
