All’s well that ends well. The devious little update KB2823324 that was part of Microsoft’s April Patch Tuesday update had caused a bit of a ruckus for a lot of users that had installed it.

The buggy update affected Windows 7 computers, pushing the machines into a continuous reboot loop, which in some instances resulted in the infamous Blue Screen of Death. The culprits were banking plugins and some security and antivirus software that did not play nicely with it.

The software giant promptly pulled off the update and promised a solution soon.

And the solution has arrived in the form of an ISO image that can be burned on a blank disc (CD or DVD) and then used to repair an affected computer. The ISO is bootable, and users are required to restart their computer, configure the BIOS to boot from the disc, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Microsoft says in the advisory:

“Customers who cannot successfully restart their systems after applying the 2823324 update can download this image to create a bootable DVD or USB drive with which they can boot their systems, uninstall security update 2823324, and return their systems to a normal operating state. Microsoft recommends using this ISO image only if customers cannot successfully restart their systems.”

For now, the repair discs are available in two languages — English and Portuguese. Not surprising when you consider the fact that computers in Brazil were one of the most affected, considering the banking plugin was for a local bank, that when combined with the update caused problems.

The fix is available in both languages from Microsoft’s Download Center.
