Apparently, one bulletin that addressed a moderate vulnerability in Microsoft Office was delayed for reasons undisclosed, but there is every chance that it will be rolled out once the company irons out the issue. However, a total of 24 vulnerabilities are addressed this month. And as Microsoft notes, three of these eight security patches are rated as Critical, with two requiring a restart. System administrators are recommended to save their work on their computers, before initiating the deployment process. The other five updates are rated as Important, and address flaws in Windows, Office and Microsoft Developer Tools. But perhaps the most important fix released this month is for Internet Explorer, called Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer and labeled KB2987107. It resolved 14 privately reported issues in the company’s web browser. The most severe of these allow an attacker the same privileges as a logged in user. A new version of Adobe Flash Player is also included in this release, making October somewhat of a busy month for Windows users.
