There are many that are aware of the benefits of having at least three leading mobile platforms, and we now have some good news for these very people. Windows Phone is growing by leaps and bounds.
I guess when you have devices like the Lumia 1020 on one end and the Lumia 520 on another, then a good showing like this is to be expected. But even if things are lacking on the software side for Windows Phone users, the overall picture is actually rather rosy.
In a recent statement, a Redmond spokesperson confirmed that the company has seen record sales of Windows Phone devices this holiday season. The strategy of targeting the midrange and low-end is paying off rather handsomely, it seems.
Full numbers and complete statistics should be with us in a few days from the various market research firms, but Microsoft claims that its mobile operating system managed to overtake Apple iOS in 14 markets around the world.
These are Hungary, Finland, Malaysia, India, Mexico, Italy, Chile, Thailand, Vietnam, Poland, South Africa, Ukraine, Czech Republic, and Greece.
Additionally, Windows Phone handsets are outselling the iPhone in 24 markets total like Colombia, Egypt, Ecuador, Kenya, Kuwait, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates along with the above mentioned countries.
Some numbers from research firm IDC are also quoted above which confirm that Windows Phone solidified its position as a top three operating system with growth of 156 percent year-over-year — the fastest among the competition.
Not bad for a platform that has been derided for having a limited selection of apps and services!

I have a 520, but I was not aware they were competing in the mid-range. Imagine how much more market share Windows Phone if there was a slightly more high-end phone available for about $100 than the 520 off contract. They need to find a way to sell one of the Lumia or the HTC phones at that price.
