It is now the number 2 smartphone operating system in 14 markets, while outselling the iPhone in 24 countries around the world. All this has resulted in a double digit market share for Windows Phone in a solid 8 markets — a figure that is very likely to grow in the coming months. As for Windows Phone, there are now more than 270,000 apps in the repository, with around 500 being added every day. Some four billion apps have been downloaded by Windows Phone users up until now. Equally impressive is the fact that monthly revenue from paid apps has increased by 440%. A lot of work still remains, but at least things seem to be going in the right direction, more or less. Microsoft seems to do this with a lot of their new product lines. They help themselves in one way and then shoot themselves in the foot in another. Windows Phone may be the best example. I am still glass half full with the Windows Phone, but they’re running out of time to make a serious push in the market share.
I figure it’s growth will only continue with the Windows Phone os now being free.
Microsoft is making moves with Windows Phone. They need to continue to improve both the hardware and software. I think think they need another no-contract phone with better specs than the 520 as well as making sure their phones are on all world carriers not just A&T, Sprint, Verizon, and their equivalent in other countries. That’s where Android is cleaning up. Everyone doesn’t buy their phones from the major carriers or even directly from them if they do have service. They definitely need to make sure we never have as long a way for an update as we did with Windows Phone 8.1. Apple has released almost two OS versions since Windows Phone 8 came out. That can’t happen anymore. But I’m looking forward to what happens with all the new phones coming out and the future updates to 8.1
