When it comes to product unveils my absolute favorite ones are when the company announces that the said devices are available to purchase the very same day.
Sure, dynamics dictate that this is not always possible, but it is a good thing to strive for.
Microsoft revealed the second generation Surface slates at a NYC event this Monday, but the devices are not scheduled to ship out to consumer until October 22 — essentially four days after the official release date of Windows 8.1.
While a select few videos of the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets have made their way to the web, Microsoft has just put up a very detailed one that showcases some of the key features of these impressive tablets.
Take a look at the video below:

Part of the company’s popular ‘On the Whiteboard’ series, this video has Brian Hall, a member of Microsoft’s Surface team talking about the tablets in depth, and explaining that the second generation Surface slates have been designed to be lighter, faster and more power efficient than predecessors.
Brian also shows us some of the accessories in action that the technology titan launched alongside the Surface tablets — the updated Touch and Type Covers that now come with backlit keyboards and the Docking Station are all on display.
The preorders for the two devices are on right now, with the first units set to fly off the warehouses on October 22, as noted above.
In the meantime, share your thoughts on the video in the comments below.
